Volakas

In stock

Volakas marble, often hailed as the “Carrara of Greece”, is a world-class natural stone celebrated for its soft, pearlescent white background and delicate, flowing veins of grey and light violet. Quarried in the Falakro Mountains of Drama, Greece, it is synonymous with classical elegance and a refined, “quiet” luxury.
Appearance and Physical Properties
  • Colour: A luminous off-white or light grey base that feels warmer and “creamier” than the stark white of Italian Statuario.
  • Veining: It features diagonal, ribbon-like veins that range from misty charcoal to subtle amethyst and hazelnut. These patterns are often more “linear” than the chaotic webbing found in other marbles.
  • Origin: Exclusively sourced from quarries in Northern Greece.
  • Finish: It is most frequently used in a polished finish to highlight its crystalline depth, though a honed finish is highly recommended for flooring to provide a soft, satin-like feel underfoot.
  • Durability: Volakas is a softer, more “elastic” marble. While durable, it is particularly susceptible to etching from acids, so professional sealing is a non-negotiable step during installation.
Recommended Applications
Volakas is highly prized for its ability to make smaller rooms feel expansive and airy.
  • Bookmatched Walls: Its diagonal veining makes it one of the best stones for bookmatched installations, often used to create a stunning “V” pattern in showers or behind bed headboards.
  • Bathrooms: A classic choice for vanity tops, floor-to-ceiling tiling, and bath surrounds, lending a serene, spa-like quality to the space.
  • Kitchens: Used for worktops and splashbacks, it pairs exquisitely with light grey, white, or natural oak cabinetry.
  • Flooring: Its subtle pattern allows it to be laid across large areas without becoming visually overwhelming, making it a favourite for luxury apartments and hotel lobbies.
