Rojo Alicante is a world-renowned Spanish marble, famous for its warm, earthy terracotta-red background and delicate, irregular white veining. This classic Mediterranean stone brings a sense of traditional luxury and natural warmth to any space, often appearing as a bold “statement” material in high-end projects.
Appearance and Physical Properties
- Colour: A rich, deep red base that ranges from brick-red to burnt orange. Its colour is remarkably stable, though it can feature darker or lighter “clouds” of pigment.
- Veining: It is characterized by thin, sparse veins of white calcite that create a subtle contrast. Occasionally, it may also feature grey or yellowish streaks.
- Origin: Exclusively quarried in the province of Alicante, Spain, particularly near the town of Monforte del Cid.
- Finish: Most commonly finished with a high polish to deepen its red tones, but also available in honed, brushed, and tumbled (antique) finishes for a more rustic look.
- Durability: As a natural marble, it is durable but porous. It is sensitive to acidic substances, so professional sealing is essential for surfaces like countertops or high-traffic floors.
