Known across the design world by various trade names—including Arni Fantastico, Calacatta Ondulato, and Calacatta Cipollino—this stone is celebrated for its sweeping, theatrical energy and ancient heritage.
The names reflect different facets of its identity: Cipollino refers to its onion-like, layered tectonic waves; Calacatta indicates its premium white-to-cream limestone base; and Arni Fantastico highlights the specific Arni basin quarry zone known for yielding exceptionally wild, dramatic blocks.

- Formation: The unique “onion-skin” wave pattern is a product of immense tectonic pressure in the Apuan Alps. Metamorphic forces folded alternating layers of white calcite marble and green silicate minerals (like chlorite and mica) into fluid ribbons.
