Cipollino Ondulato

In stock

Cipollino Ondulato is a dramatic, luxury Italian marble quarried in the Apuan Alps of Tuscany. Renowned for its bold, fluid aesthetic, its name translates to “wavy little onion,” a nod to its unique, multi-layered tectonic folds that resemble the inner section of an onion
  • Colour Palette: Highly multi-coloured and variable. It blends rich tones of olive green, charcoal grey, deep purple, dusty rose, and dark black, all contrasted by sweeping bands of cream and paper-white.
  • Pattern: Distinctly horizontal and undulating. The parallel bands sweep across the stone like rippling water or abstract brushstrokes, offering immense movement.
  • Variants: Depending on the dominant colour of the block, it is often sorted into Cipollino Ondulato Verde (green-heavy), Cipollino Ondulato Rosso (red/purple-heavy), or Classic.
Physical Properties & Maintenance
  • Texture: Fine, crystalline geological structure formed by extreme pressure and temperature over millennia.
  • Finishes: Available in polished (high shine), honed (matte, dry look), or leathered/brushed finishes. A honed finish is highly favoured by designers to keep glare from distracting from the intricate patterns.
  • Sensitivity: Like most genuine marbles, it is calcareous and acid-reactive. It requires professional sealing to prevent water and oil-based stains. Acidic substances (like lemon juice or wine) will etch the surface.
Best Applications
Because its dramatic veining varies significantly from block to block, Cipollino Ondulato is rarely used as a quiet background material. It is treated as a statement piece, making it ideal for:
  • Book matched feature walls and fireplace surrounds
  • Bathroom wall cladding and luxury vanity tops
  • Low-impact kitchen islands or custom furniture tops
  • Architectural accents like columns, staircases, and luxury flooring
