Statuary

In stock

Statuary marble (also known as Statuario) is widely considered the “crème de la crème” of natural stone. An elite cousin to Carrara and Calacatta, it is renowned for its pure, icy-white background and dramatic, fluid grey veining, making it the ultimate symbol of high-end luxury and timelessness.
Appearance and Physical Properties
  • Colour: It boasts a highly bright, luminous white base that is more uniform and “clean” than other Italian marbles.
  • Veining: The stone is defined by a mix of heavy, bold grey “rivers” of vein and thinner, delicate grey lines. The contrast against the stark white background creates a striking, three-dimensional effect.
  • Origin: This rare material is quarried in the Carrara region of Italy, specifically from the higher elevations of the Apuan Alps where the stone’s purity is highest.
  • Finish: Almost always presented in a polished finish to maximize its reflective, crystal-like quality, though honed finishes are popular for a contemporary, velvet-like touch.
  • Rarity: Because Statuary marble is found in limited quantities, it is often one of the most expensive marbles on the market.
Recommended Applications
Because of its high price point and immense beauty, Statuary marble is typically reserved for “hero” pieces in a home.
  • Bookmatched Features: Its bold veining makes it perfect for bookmatching, where two slabs are placed side-by-side to create a mirrored, symmetrical pattern on waterfall kitchen islands or feature walls.
  • Bathrooms: Frequently used for luxury master ensuites, including full-slab wall cladding, vanity tops, and walk-in showers.
  • Sculpture & Architecture: True to its name, it has been the preferred medium for master sculptors for centuries due to its fine grain and consistent texture.
  • Flooring: Found in grand entryways and ballrooms, often laid in large-format tiles to showcase the sprawling vein patterns
