Etna Marble also known more commonly as Grigio Carnico is a highly prized Italian marble, renowned for its elegant, intense dark grey or anthracite background that is dynamically contrasted by sharp, irregular veins of bright white and lighter grey. Quarried in the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park, this classic yet contemporary stone exudes a strong personality and sophisticated appeal, suitable for a wide range of design projects.
Appearance and Physical Properties
  • Colour: The primary feature is a captivating dark grey base, which can range from ash grey to almost black, providing a dramatic backdrop for the veining.
  • Veining: It is defined by distinctive, web-like patterns of pure white and lighter grey veins that create a striking visual effect, ensuring that each slab is a unique natural work of art.
  • Origin: Sourced from quarries located in the Carnic Alps of Northern Italy, the stone is a biospar-micrite, a fine-grained limestone rock with excellent structural compactness.
  • Finish: The marble takes a polished finish exceptionally well, which enhances its natural lustre and depth of colour, but is also available in honed, brushed, and other finishes for different aesthetic needs.
  • Durability and Care: Known for its excellent resistance and durability for a marble, it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. However, as a porous natural stone, it requires proper sealing and care, especially in areas with potential exposure to acidic substances, to prevent staining and etching.
Recommended Applications
Grigio Carnico’s bold visual impact makes it an excellent choice for creating dramatic focal points and adding character to both residential and commercial spaces.
  • Flooring and Walls: It is widely used for interior flooring and wall cladding, where its dark tone can create a luxurious, contemporary feel. It is also robust enough for exterior applications like paving, stairs, and window sills.
  • Kitchen and Bathroom: A popular choice for sophisticated kitchen countertopsbathroom vanities, and shower surrounds. The large slabs are well-suited for bookmatched installations, which highlight the continuous, flowing veining patterns.
  • Architectural Features: The stone is used for fireplace surrounds, columns, tables, and other architectural elements, often paired with lighter marbles (such as Carrara) or materials like wood and metal to create a balanced design
