Eramosa Cross-Cut

In stock

Eramosa cross-cut limestone (often marketed as Eramosa Marble) is a variation of the famous Canadian stone where the block is sliced perpendicular to its natural bedding plane. This specific cutting technique completely transforms its appearance from the well-known linear “wood grain” look of the vein-cut version into a more organic, swirling pattern.
Visual Appearance
  • Pattern: Unlike the straight parallel lines found in vein-cut slabs, the cross-cut reveals a “fleuri” or cloudy pattern. This creates circular, concentric designs that resemble natural tree rings or waves.
  • Colour Palette: It features a rich, luxurious tobacco brown or dark brown background. This is often accented by variegated shades of light brown, beige, cream, and subtle grey.
  • Texture: The pattern is dynamic and non-uniform, with lighter and darker shades blending into one another across the surface
Material Properties
  • Durability: As a Class 3 high-density limestone, it is extremely hard and durable for its category. It has low water absorption (approximately 0.25%–0.6%) and high compressive strength.
  • Finishes: It accepts a wide range of finishes. Polished and honed are standard for interior luxury, while sandblastedbrushed, or bush-hammered finishes are used for added texture and slip resistance.
Common Applications
  • Interior: Frequently used in high-end residential and commercial projects for luxury flooring, wall cladding, fireplace surrounds, and staircases.
  • Countertops & Vanities: Its density allows it to be used for bathroom vanity tops and kitchen worktops, though it may require resin treatment or professional sealing to protect against etching.
  • Exterior: Suitable for outdoor vertical panels, paving, and pool copings due to its ability to withstand freeze-thaw cycles.
  • Sealing: Should be protected with a high-quality, acid-free impregnating sealer to prevent water and oil-based stains.
  • Cleaning: Regular maintenance should be done with a dry microfiber mop and acid-free cleaning products to avoid damaging the calcium-based structure
